If you are looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing, then the AstroMaster 70AZ is for you. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky. The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. The unique alt-azimuth tripod head has a long handle which enables smooth effortless movement in altitude and azimuth, and the head moves similar to a fluid effect video or movie camera tripod head. Tracking the moon and planets at higher powers, or even following a moving bird is possible due to the design of the tripod head.
Owners of Celestron CG5 mounts or Celestron SE 4, 5 and 6 telescopes can mount their tube assemblies onto the Astromaster tripod head, by simply removing the Astromaster 70 refractor tube assembly first, and then sliding the SE 4, 5 or 6 tube assemblies into the dovetail holder on the Astromaster tripod. Similarly, a 70mm Astromaster refractor can be mounted on any CG5 equatorial mount.
