Home Telescopes Meade Telescopes Meade LX200 Telescopes Meade LX200 ACF 16 Inch Telescope
The most widely used research quality telescope now features the most advanced optical system for serious applications. Meades LX200-ACF 16" brings Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) optics within reach of astronomers everywhere. Nearly every observatory reflector in the world uses an aplanatic (coma-free) optical system like the Ritchey-Chrétien (RC), including NASAs Hubble Space Telescope. Now you can own similar optics to what the professionals use. The LX200-ACF includes all the field-proven features of the LX200 including GPS, Primary Mirror Lock, Oversized Primary Mirror, SmartDrive; Smart Mount, AutoStar® II and more. The new LX200-ACF. Its the biggest news in astronomy since, well, the LX200. This flagship 16" observatory class model is available with tripod or pier options as a special order, please call us on 01322 403407 to discuss your individual requirements. We can advise every step of the process from delivery options to long term projects in astronomy for universities and colleges. Please contact us for delivery times
These superb large aperture instruments are capable of serious research and education and are widely in use all over the world in some of the world's leading learning establishments. We have years of extensive experience in the supply and installation of these fine 16" systems, highly recommended. The advanced in Advanced Coma-Free. A traditional Ritchey-Chrétien (RC) is a type of reflector that delivers a coma-free, flat field of view via hyperbolic primary and secondary mirrors. Because the mirrors in these telescopes have always been very expensive to make, few amateur astronomers could enjoy them. Fortunately, Meade engineers developed a radical new Advanced Coma Free design by combining a hyperbolic secondary mirror with a corrector-lens-and-spherical-primary-mirror combination that performs as one hyperbolic element. This ACF design produces a coma-free, flat field of view that rivals traditional RC telescopes at a fraction of the cost. The design even eliminates diffraction spikes and improves astigmatism, both of which are inherent in the traditional RC design. When reviewing Meades LX400-ACF Advanced Coma Free, Sky and Telescope magazine said, It does indeed perform like a Ritchey-Chrétien. The difference between the off-axis images (compared to a Schmidt-Cassegrain) was dramatic to say the least.UHTC coatingsMeade UHTC is a series of exotic optical coatings precisely tuned to optimize the optical performance of your LX telescope. Image brightness is increased by nearly 15% over standard coatings. Objects such as stars, galaxies and nebulae as observed through your LX will be dramatically brighter. Even observations of the Moon and planets will benefit in increased image brightness from the full spectrum of light transmission.Specifications:Optical Design Advanced Coma Free Clear Aperture 406.4mm (16") Focal Length 4064mm Focal Ratio f/10 Maximum Practical Visual Power 950X Telescope Mounting heavy-duty fork, double tine Primary Mirror Lock progressive tension, included Zero Image-Shift Microfocuser 4-Speed, included Eyepiece Series 5000 26mm Plossl 2" DiagonalViewfinder 8 x 50mm GPS, True-Level & North Sensors 16-channel GPS receiver, all included Pointing Precision, HP Mode 1 arc minute AutoStar II Hand Controller with 147,541 objects Slew Speeds RA and Dec: 0.01x to 1.0x sidereal, variable in 0.01x increments; 2x, 8x, 16x, 64x, 128x sidereal; 1º per second to 8º per second, variable in 0.1º increments Tracking Rates sidereal, lunar, or custom selected Primary, Secondary Mirrors Pyrex grade A glass Correcting Plate/Lens water white glass Total Net Telescope Weight 318 lbs. with tripodField Tripod Height 40" to 50"UHTC Included
